Is California Trying To Leave The Union?

People are reacting to Donald Trump’s presidency in some interesting ways. Some people are holding massive protests and taking it to the streets. Other people think that slamming America and their fellow Americans is the way to go.

Of course celebrities have always said that if America doesn’t vote for a radical liberal candidate they will “leave the country” and move to Canada or Europe. Yet few have actually gone through with it.

But now we don’t have just a few celebrities threatening to leave, but instead an entire state.

And now just some little state. California is threatening to leave.

via Yahoo:

California’s Secretary of State Alex Padilla gave the green light on Thursday for proponents of “California Nationhood” — also known as Calexit — to start collecting the nearly 600,000 signatures needed for the measure to qualify on the November 2018 ballot.

The 585,407 signatures required by July 25 represent eight percent of registered voters in California — the most populous state in the country with nearly 40 million residents and the world’s sixth-largest economy.

They already got a flag, it seems.

What are your thoughts on this? Should California be allowed to leave or do they have an obligation to stay in the United States of America?

I am conflicted. I believe firmly in States’ Rights. But those rights only exist if the State is a part of the UNITED States. California is not Texas, there was not a time when it was its own territory or country.  I don’t think they have the right to take away American land and become their own country.

Also, what about those who live in California but want to remain Americans. Would they be forced to leave and become political refugees? Would we have to extremely vet Californians crossing the border into Nevada, Oregon, and Arizona?

It also might be a bad deal for Californians as they will miss out in billions of dollars in benefits they receive from the government. California is a “taker” state, meaning they receive more in federal aid than the state’s residents and businesses pay in federal taxes.

California leaving the Union might be bad for Californians, but good for the rest of us!
