President Trump has delivered his first speech to a join session of Congress. And while the Democrats came across with plenty to complain about – there was one amazing moment that even left the Democrats applauding.
The moment was stunning – President Trump stood to recognize the sacrifice of Carryn Owens, the widow of the Navy Seal that was killed during the Yemen Raid weeks into his presidency.
The applause was the longest of the entire night, and thundered through the chamber.
“We are joined tonight by Carryn Owens,” Trump said, “the widow of U.S. Navy Special Operator Senior Chief William Ryan Owens. Ryan died as he lived a warrior and a hero, battling against terrorism and securing our nation.”
“I just spoke to our great General Mattis just now,” Trump continued, “who reconfirmed that, and I quote, ‘Ryan was a part of a highly successful raid that generated large amounts of vital intelligence that will lead to many more victories in the future against our enemy.’ Ryan’s legacy is etched into eternity.”
Then he thanked Carryn Owens, who then received the longest sustained applause of the night in a very powerful moment of national gratitude.
